What is Petanque?

The concept of the game of pétanque (commonly known as French Boules) is simple and similar to bowls, i.e. resting your boule closer to the jack than your opponent.

However, instead of rolling wooden bowls over an immaculately maintained lawn, pétanque is played on an easily maintained area of fairly level 'stony' ground, with metal boule rolled or tossed to the jack.

The Hoxne Swan Petanque Team

Our team at present consists of two players from Hoxne, two from Fressingfield, two from Framlingham, two from Harleston and one player from Cranley.

Want to Join?

We practice at the Swan on Sundays from 10.30am (unless we have an away game on) but would ask any interested locals or visitors who might like to play to phone first on 01379 668220 and speak to team captain Chris Johnson.

Loan of boules and tuition provided free of charge initially.
